I've been preparing, forgetting and revisiting an idea for nearly twenty years. Since so much of my acumen seems to involve atmospheric representations of “still life” in memory, I wanted to record and produce in whatever locale I saw fit The idea was to actually be a part of inspiration. It would be the musical equivalent of the painter working with life drawing. It's a little more formalistic, just by virtue of the fact that music exists for the most part. at an operationally greater distance from the artist. The idea has to fight it's way through electronics and facility with computers. And, anywhere along the way, it can be subverted or simply abandoned.
At the time I originally developed this, it would have taken a lot of money, equipment and logistics – to say nothing of the administrative leveraging – to make it happen. It was time and again, relegated to fantasy. But now, the entire recording studio has collapsed into a laptop. This venture is now more possible than ever before.
I've finally settled on what's at least a temporary design for this site. I think it really is true that art is only abandoned rather than finished. Orson Welles' “limitations” are endemic.
Lately, working with arrangements of covers has reached the point of reflexivity. That's not to say that it's any easier. In actual fact, certain aspects of it are getting harder. And I haven't added singing to it, yet.
